“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23, ESV)
Oftentimes I find myself feeling anxious about thoughts of the future. I can become all consumed with thinking about the uncertainty of the future and less consumed with reminding myself of God’s faithfulness throughout my life.
I forget about God’s faithfulness in meeting my husband, Craig – how we met, ended up having a class together at K-State, and how I shockingly said “yes” when he asked me through a Facebook message if I wanted to come over and meet his cat.
I forget how we once made a decision to move with only one part time job awaiting us as a young couple. Yet that part time job turned into a full time job less than a week later.
I look around and can see visible signs of God’s faithfulness all around – our three children, our home, our minivan. God has come through and provided for us time and time again – even when we go through periods of uncertainty, frustration, discouragement, and doubt.
As Christians, we are called to remember God’s faithfulness – through Jesus’s death on the cross and through countless occasions throughout history. In Joshua 4, God asks the Israelites to create a memorial of stones to remember the miracle of when the Jordan River stopped flowing, allowing all of Israel to pass. Reminders of God’s faithfulness in the past help us to remember that He is the same faithful God today – who cares about us with steadfast love and has never-ending mercies. Even in the middle of Lamentations, an entire book full of poems of lament, Jeremiah (the author) remembers the faithfulness of God.
Pray: God, may we remember your faithfulness even in the midst of trials and discouragement. May we focus on your steadfast love and mercy and be reminded how much you care for us always.
